Together with LOBBY Art Concierge, сцена/szena gallery presents Akhmat Bikanov’s personal exhibition Neither Oak Nor Cypress Grow in Each Other’s Shadow. The conjoint project is part of the COSMOSCOW parallel program which precedes the opening of the art fair.
In his project, Neither Oak Nor Cypress Grow in Each Other’s Shadow Akhmat Bikanov unveils the deep and intimate spaces of his characters, revealing on paper the invisible thread of existential connections. His protagonists are seemingly frozen between two states - at once solitary and yet painfully intertwined, akin to the vibrating ornament of light and shadow on the river's surface, reflected on the skin on a late summer day.
The structure of the exposition is dichotomous - as if split in two by a dagger. Thus, disjointing the physical realm and the plane of the immaterial, where protagonists glimmer and refract as a double projection. The series of graphic works tells of an unreachable space, saturated with all-permeating ether. In Bikanov’s work, the delicate element appears as an ideal landscape where serenity and doubt, parting and meeting are possible, where horror and aversion are unknown.
Akhmat’s practice explores the ephemeral space of beauty and the perception of it. In his works it is often bound to the sensation of longing - a part of pleasure. Just like a chord enhances a melody, not permitting one to completely dissolve its entrancing sound, not allowing one to forget the darker part of life. At such moments beauty begins to lose its anthropocentric balance, escaping beyond the human experience, yet retaining an immanent imprint on people. The graphic works of Bikanov are reminiscent to a love letter from an unknown sender. One who may not have a physical body, a consciousness, may not know any tongues or may not even exist, yet translates feelings.

Проект станет одним из событий параллельной программы, предваряющих открытие ярмарки современного искусства Cosmoscow. Экспозиция расположится в пространстве LOBBY, где будут представлены акварельные работы и монохромная графика тушью из частных собраний. Основной пул работ сделан автором в течение года, однако, ранее не был доступен широкой публике.
Ахмат Биканов (р. 1996), Нальчик (Кабардино-Балкария). Ахмат Биканов получил образование в Московском Архитектурном Институте. Основой художественной практики Ахмата являются графические серии, выполненные преимущественно акварелью и тушью. Художник стремиться передать внутренний мир и чувства людей через портреты вымышленных героев, обитающих в идеальном пространстве незримого ландшафта, однако, узнаваемого зрителем в окружающей реальности.

Камерное арт пространство в центре Москвы, созданное куратором Анастасией Шавлоховой. Главным фокусом галереи является планомерная работа с художниками пространства NEW EAST (Восточная Европа, Балканы, Россия и Центральная Азия), в частности, поддержка в формировании собственного творческого языка, и создание контекста вокруг них.
сцена/ szena выполняет функцию медиатора между художником и зрителем, и шире - между локальным и интернациональным арт-сообществом.
