Cheltsoviii

The solo exhibition of the Cheltsovi sisters «Boulevard Sophie Varennes» will take place in LOBBY from June 9 to August 31. Artists Varya and Sonya will present a summer series of painted ceramic vases and porcelain plates, as part of the #LOBBYBelieve changing exhibitions initiative.

The «Boulevard Sophie Varennes» exhibition, a joint curatorial project of LOBBY and art collector and adviser Olga Vashchilina, invites the viewer to have a walk down the imaginary French street in the universe of the Cheltsovi sisters.

Inspired by the French painting at the turn of the XIX – XX centuries, the artists created unique asymmetrical objects: vases, plates and dishes in either soft pastel, or striking dark shades that captivate the viewer with their curves, twists and playful lines.

Quirky, hand-sculpted and hand-painted ceramics convey the lightness, brightness, breeziness of summer filled with tenderness, sweetness, carelessness and playful dancing. Bulky and at the same time statuesque vases are exhibited side by side with erratic and almost floating pieces that look like they are about to lose their balance — a kind of fun on the verge of madness.

#LOBBYBELIEVE

The #LOBBYBelieve initiative is aimed at promoting young and emerging artists through an exhibition platform enabling them to enter the art world arena, to find their first collectors and to connect to a gallery that will further represent the artist.

Collaborations with various art institutions and galleries aim to foster horizontal connections within the art sphere and to achieve LOBBY’s curatorial ambition. The exhibition programme is built on the principle of embracing a broad spectrum of artistic projects. The following approach enables the gallery’s audience to gain an understanding of the art sphere and community, including an introduction to international players.
